A 59 year old Asian hair restoration male patient with Norwood V with balding area over the front and crown, He has miniaturized hairs over the top and wanted to improve only the front part due to his limited budget . The total balding area measured 199 cm2 at frontal, top and crown.
The air transplant surgery consisted of ultra refined follicular unit grafting and was done with strip technique and trichophytic closure.
The details of the hair transplantation are as follows:
Frontal & Top area: 1 hair: 204 FU grafts, 2 hair: 1613 FU grafts (3226hairs), 3 hair: 394 FU grafts (1182 hairs) and 4-5 hairs:237 FU grafts(1066 hairs). A total of 2448 follicular unit grafts, bearing 5678 hairs were transplanted. Patient has been on Finasteride 1mg 1 tab. daily and Minoxidil 5% lotion, 1cc twice daily.
The patient was followed at one year postoperative with good growth and significant cosmetic improvement.
Bald class
Norwood stage 5
Occurs when the connecting bridge of hair disappears leaving a single large bald area on the front and top of the scalp. The hair on the sides of the scalp remains relatively high.
